India Presents BHISHM Cube to the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus
Nicosia, 8 June 2026
In a ceremony organised at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Manish handled over the BHISHM Cube on behalf of the Government of India to Lieutenant General Emmanouel Theodorou, Chief of the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus.
Developed under India's Aarogya Maitri initiative, the BHISHM Cube is a Made-in-India modular medical trauma kit designed for rapid deployment during emergencies, including earthquakes, floods, cyclones, landslides and conflict situations. Built to provide critical care during the "golden hour," it can support treatment for up to 300 patients and includes portable diagnostic equipment, emergency medical supplies and surgical support, RFID-based inventory management and digital integration via the BHISHM App.
The presentation is a concrete expression of India's friendship with Cyprus and its commitment to humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, emergency medical response and crisis preparedness. It also reflects the deepening bilateral cooperation in defence, security, resilience and technology.
The ceremony follows a series of landmark diplomatic milestones. During President Christodoulides' State Visit to India from 20–23 May 2026, the two countries elevated their ties to a Strategic Partnership, a historic step building on the momentum of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Cyprus in June 2025, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over two decades.
Speaking at the ceremony, High Commissioner Manish described the presentation as a manifestation of India's civilisational ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world is one family. He noted that India's approach to global partnership goes beyond strategic cooperation, reflecting a readiness to share capabilities that protect lives and strengthen humanitarian preparedness worldwide.
He further highlighted the BHISHM Cube as an embodiment of India's advances in healthcare innovation, technology-enabled medical logistics and defence-linked emergency response, and expressed pride in sharing this capability with Cyprus, a valued friend and strategic partner.
