About the SII Portal

The Study in India (SII) Portal (https://studyinindia.gov.in) is a one-stop digital platform launched by the Government of India to facilitate international students aspiring to pursue education in India. The portal simplifies the entire process of admission, course selection, and visa application for short-term, long-term, and degree programs in India’s prestigious academic institutions and Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

Mandatory Registration for All International Students

All foreign nationals intending to study in India are required to register on the SII Portal. This is mandatory and must be completed before applying for a Student Visa.

Upon registration, the system generates a unique SII-ID, which must be quoted in the Student Visa application. This ID acts as a digital reference for all academic and visa-related processes.

New e-Student Visa Feature

The Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced a streamlined e-Student Visa system. This allows students to apply for a visa online via the Indian Visa Portal, using their SII-ID.

The e-Student Visa initiative improves transparency and processing time, and is a critical step in ensuring smoother arrival and enrolment of foreign students in Indian institutions.

Important Notice

The SII registration and SII-ID are now mandatory for all international students seeking to apply for a student visa for India. No visa applications will be accepted without SII registration.
