In a significant development in the field of educational and cultural cooperation between India and Cyprus, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the University of Nicosia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the ICCR Chair of Indian Studies in Cyprus.

The MoU was signed by High Commissioner of India to Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Manish, and Rector of the University of Nicosia, Prof. Philippos Pouyioutas, during the official visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi to the Republic of Cyprus.

The ICCR Chair will facilitate the appointment of an Indian academic expert to the University of Nicosia, with the aim of promoting Indian studies and enhancing awareness of India’s civilizational values, philosophy, language, and global outlook. The initiative is designed to support academic exchange, collaborative research, and mutual understanding between Indian and Cypriot institutions and scholars.

This collaboration marks a strategic advancement in education diplomacy, reinforcing the longstanding bonds of friendship and cultural affinity between India and Cyprus. It also aligns with India’s broader efforts to foster people-to-people connections and project its rich intellectual and cultural heritage globally through higher education partnerships.

The signing of this MoU reaffirms ICCR’s commitment to academic outreach and strengthens the growing educational and cultural ties between the two nations.
