High Commissioner Mr. Manish had a warm and engaging interaction with Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Act East Policy Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Government of Assam.
The discussions focused on the immense potential for collaboration between Cyprus and Assam in strengthening the Startup ecosystem, boosting FDI inflows, and promoting sustainable Tourism — particularly in the domains of Forest Tourism and River Tourism. Special emphasis was placed on Assam’s strategic role as India’s gateway to the ASEAN region and the exciting opportunities emerging through Advantage Assam.
The High Commissioner underlined Cyprus’s growing significance as a hub connecting Europe and Asia, and emphasized the scope for building robust economic and cultural linkages between Cyprus and Assam, leveraging the strengths of both regions.
High Commissioner also briefed the Minister on opportunities for businesses from Assam in Cyprus, the European Union (EU), and the MENA region. The discussion also focused on:
• The Act East Policy,
- Ways to promote Assam’s Horticulture and Agro Products,
- Tourism promotion, particularly in Tea Tourism and Forest and River based tourism,
- Showcasing Bamboo Handicrafts and Assamese Culture in Cyprus.
The High Commissioner extended an invitation to the Government of Assam to send a Startup delegation to Cyprus, further reinforcing the commitment of India in Cyprus (High Commission of India, Nicosia) to deepen partnerships and unlock new avenues of growth between Cyprus, Assam, and the wider North East region.
