High Commissioner Discusses Migration, Mobility and Welfare of Indian Workers with Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection

High Commissioner Mr. Manish met Dr. Nicholas A. Ioannides, Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection of the Republic of Cyprus, and Mr. Charalambos Rousos, Permanent Secretary, for discussions on migration, mobility and the welfare of the Indian community in Cyprus.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner highlighted the valuable contribution of Indian professionals and workers to the Cypriot economy and society. He underscored the importance of ensuring their welfare, fair treatment and well-being, and raised issues affecting some Indian employees in Cyprus.

The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation on safe, legal, orderly and skill-based mobility between India and Cyprus, including mechanisms that could facilitate mutually beneficial movement of professionals and workers.

A key focus of the discussions was the need to make time-bound progress towards finalising the India–Cyprus Migration and Mobility Agreement, as envisaged by the leaders of the two countries during the visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, to India in May 2026. Both sides emphasised the importance of establishing a legal, transparent and predictable framework for mobility that responds to the needs and priorities of both countries.

Dr. Ioannides assured the High Commissioner of the Deputy Ministry’s continued support in addressing concerns faced by Indian employees in Cyprus and reaffirmed its willingness to remain engaged with the High Commission on matters concerning their welfare.

The Deputy Minister also thanked the High Commissioner for the invitation to Namaste Cyprus 2026 and confirmed his participation in the event.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of India and Cyprus to deepen bilateral cooperation on migration and mobility, safeguard the welfare of their people, and further strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
