Flavours of Bharat 2026 held in Nicosia
The High Commission of India, Nicosia hosted Flavours of Bharat 2026 on 27 March 2026, bringing the dynamic world of Indian cinema to Cyprus through an evening of storytelling, culture and creative engagement.
The event brought together policymakers, members of the diplomatic corps, media representatives, film professionals, Cypriot friends of India and members of the Indian community, creating a vibrant platform for cultural diplomacy and deeper India–Cyprus people-to-people engagement.
In his keynote address, High Commissioner Mr. Manish highlighted the evolution of Indian cinema from 1913 to its present global prominence, noting that India today is home to one of the world’s largest and most diverse film industries. He underscored cinema as a powerful cultural bridge connecting societies and strengthening India–Cyprus relations.
The event was further enriched by remarks from Ms. Andry Platrides, award-winning Cypriot screenwriter, and Mr. Yiannis Xenofontos, President of the Friends of Cinema Society, who shared perspectives on storytelling, cinema and opportunities for deeper India–Cyprus cultural collaboration.
The evening featured curated trailers from major Indian films including Padmaavat, Andhadhun, Dangal, War, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and RRR, showcasing the breadth, scale and diversity of Indian cinema across intimate narratives, sport, action, music, emotion and epic spectacle.
Beyond cinema, guests experienced India through immersive cultural elements including Mehendi art, an AI-enabled cultural booth, a curated film exhibition and an Indian tea experience, blending heritage with innovation and strengthening people-to-people connections.
The evening concluded with vibrant Bollywood dance and Bhangra performances, capturing the rhythm, colour and spirit of India.
Flavours of Bharat 2026 served as a meaningful cultural diplomacy platform, using cinema, art, hospitality and storytelling to deepen India–Cyprus engagement and build enduring connections through the universal language of creativity.
